Haruhi Moriyama

Haruhi Moriyama was a character I created in March 2022, in pursuit of a replacement for one of my older characters, Hershi. He was inspired by my love for red pandas and for cute, soft color palettes. With spring coming into season, I littered some plants onto him to accentuate his design, and despite the fact red pandas have larger pads on their paws, gave him cat-like paws on his feet and fluffy fur on his hands.

Haruhi adopted a few of Hershi's quirks and traits, such as his kindness and obliviousness, his enjoyment of the outdoors, and fear of taller people. I tried to differentiate him however by making him more athletic and a fan of the beach, since Hershi lived in a fantastical mountain setting. Haruhi's setting is inpired by the coastal towns of southern California, of which I live close to. Despite my attempt with Haruhi as a new character, inspiration didn't last long.

I did however draw him again (after a year of not doing so- wow!) for /art's Spring 2023 banner. I'm hoping to revisit him- like many of my other personal characters- and breath some new life into him.

Peter Oakley

Peter Oakley was made during a sudden burst of inspiration I had for my next totally-not-Hershi character (jeez, I oughtta think of a new concept, huh?!). I wanted him to be simple but still have some details to him, so I used a rather minimal palette for him and his clothes. I think it worked out, and I really do love his colors!

Oakley is a short cat with folded ears and a large, feathery tail. He doesn't wear pants because none of the pants I drew looked good on him, but it's cute anyways because of the marks and fluff around his hips. With a big cardigan, oversized shirt, and matching leg warmers, he's quite the comfortable character! I've decided to make him a bit of a mascot for the site, as well.
