Hello! Welcome to the Early Ages/ Medieval section of the Chanpedia! This page is intended to keep track of information regarding individual Chans from that era. For information regarding specific terms and the Chans race, refer to the Chanwiki!

The Blackened Years (500 - 1600s After Scourge) was the earliest era in which civilization began to reform. The quality of life at this early part of post-scourge history was immensely low, especially as many violent wars were fought in efforts to claim much of the emptied land. Countries came and went, not unlike our own medieval history.

BLOOD

NOTES

  • A liquidy Chan made from blood, with hard, scabby horns. Is it human blood? Animal? Whatever it is, it's probably best to keep away, especially as she harbors a strong, bloody odor.
  • Described as being an urban legend. The story goes two ways- either she was born from a woman's miscarriage, or from a village-wide massacre.
  • Stains everything she touches with blood.
  • Her horns can be broken off and regrow.
  • Has a very secretive nature. Haunts the wilderness sucking the blood from unsuspecting victims.

CHOLERA

NOTES

  • Based off of the disease cholera, which originiates from a virus (Vibrio cholerae) that resides in water. The disease is nicknamed the 'Blue Death', as it changes an infected person's skin blue through severe dehydration.
  • Her shark-like appearance may have been inspired by the term 'shark-infested waters', being that Vibrio cholerae is an infective virus found in water.

DREAM

NOTES

  • The personification of dreams, the thoughts you have when you sleep.
  • While her ram horns and sheep-like eyes may be of concern, 'counting sheep' is a common notion for getting someone to sleep.

DUST

NOTES

  • A Chan born from the essence of dust, she inherited a cute set of ears atop her head from her kin, the dust bunny.
  • A very empathetic and forgiving Chan, she fears coming off as a nuisance to others. Unfortunately, her constant state of dustiness is a bit of a problem.

GUILLOTINE

NOTES

  • A guillotine turned Chan, she has the ability to decapitate herself (without executing herself in the process, of course).
  • Her hair is made of metal.

NIGHTMARE

NOTES

  • The personification of nightmares, dreams turned sour.
  • She can transform into horrors aplenty, and is often manifested as a monstrous, man-eating beast.

NIPAH

NOTES

  • Possibly based off of the Nipah disease, or alternatively, the Nipah virus, which is most commonly found in fruit bats.
  • A bit of a perfectionist, she has worked extensively to make her flying and general movements silent. Unlike bats, which appear to flap madly, her flying has been described as graceful.
  • Very stiff and lacking in emotion.

PLAGUE

NOTES

  • The personification of contagious bacterial diseases. Notably, she wears a plague doctor's mask. Or is that her face?

RABIES • Lyssa (Chans)

NOTES

  • Based off of the rabies disease. Her name likely comes from the genus Lyssavirus, from which the rabies virus (Rabies lyssavirus) belongs to.
  • The mask on her face (a 'trap muzzle') does not open, and is a bit of an annoyance as it prevents her from transmitting rabies (not like she wants to, anyways).
  • Doesn't like being in water.

RINDERPEST

NOTES

  • A Chan made of the essence of the disease, rinderpest. In our modern day, rinderpest as a disease has been declared 'officially eradicated'. Rinderpest affected cloven-hoofed mammals, such as cattle.

SWINE FLU • Henwyn (Chans)

NOTES

  • Based off of the disease of the same name (Swine influenza). It is a disease caused by a virus that originates from pigs.
  • Her name likely comes from Hênwen, a pig of legend.
  • An animal lover and vegan.
